Hot Tips for Great Summer Hair
Flat ironing isn’t just for curly or coarse hair, a flat iron can help add tons of shine and polish to fine hair, too. But it’s important to remember a few key rules when flat ironing fine hair. First, instead of taking large horizontal sections, take smaller diagonal-back sections. This prevents the hair underneath from getting pinched in the flat iron and allows the hair to fall at its natural fall position. Next, take your comb in the opposite hand with the teeth facing up and take the section in your comb. As your flat iron comes in, start moving the iron before the plates are even closed all the way. Allow the comb to lead your hand and move slowly to create a nice bevel. For fine hair, make sure the hand holding the flat iron is far away from the plates for less compression. The thicker or coarser the hair, the closer you should hold your hand to the plates. Make sure you move slowly down the section; the rate of speed will determine the success of your flat ironing skills, also keep in mind that you have the proper heat setting for your type of hair Thursday, June 9, 2011

Featured Artist
Since the end of 2010, we opened up a portion of the Salon to an all handmade/hand crafted retail boutique. We selected artists and crafters from all over the state of Minnesota to bring our customers a unique selection to peruse while getting their hair done.Over the next few months we will be showcasing our artists to give you the inside scoop on their products and why we think they are so special!
First, lets start with Light Reading.
Started by Brenda Irwin and her daughter Jess, they started the Light Reading collective which features decorative lampshades, knitwear, vintage items, book marks and so much more. They combine new things with a vintage, old Hollywood feel to bring you one of a kind finds.
You can visit them at their blog- http://lightandpaper.blogspot.com/
Purchase something on their Etsy site- http://www.etsy.com/people/lightreading
Or stop in and check out their creative crafts at the Salon!

Keeping up with Trends
Now that the holidays are over, the next thing to look forward to is spring! One great way to get ready for a new season is with killer new haircolor. This year, spring haircolor is all about gold. From lamé mini-dresses to glittering brocade, the runways of New York Fashion Week shimmered with accents of gold, and that look is translating right from the catwalk and onto your head!. Update your brunette with a color similar to J Lo’s. “Jennifer Lopez’s beautiful chestnut brown will be huge next season!”
For redheads, think Emma Stone pre-platinum. “A really strong base of deep, almost burgundy color creates extra sass and personality,”
