Face Shapes... Find the right style for your face shape!
1. In front of a mirror, pull your hair off your face by wetting it and combing it back or tying it at the back.
Oval - Length equals around one and a half times width
As oval is considered to be the ideal face shape it is therefore the most versatile, so nearly every hair style will look good on this face. You can wear short, medium or long hair styles. Your face shape is in even proportion.

Round - Round hairline and chin line, wide face and round cheeks
If you have a round face shape, the goal here is to slim the face. Hair below the chin line should be worn with a face-lengthening center parting. For hair above the chin line, wear an off-center parting to break up the roundness.

Square - straight hairline, angular jaw with wide face
Your hairstyle should try to soften the sharp angle of your jaw line and minimize a squared-off forhead look. Hairstyles that emphasize the cheekbones are most flattering, so short layers (cut into longer hair) that swing foreward onto cheekbones will look great.

Triangular or Pear - wide chin and narrow forehead
When choosing a style for this face shape, you should seek on a look that narrows the chin and widens the forehead to balance proportions. Wear your hair wide and full at the top and temples, brushed away from the face and up toward the ears to widen forehead.
Heart - narrow jaw line, wider at eyes
If this is your face shape, you'll want a hairstyle that extenuates the jaw line and narrows at the eyes. Heart shape faces need a softer, curlier style. a chin length look is perfect. The objective is to create width around a narrower chin. Side slanted waves draw attention away from the jaw line. Best looks are full curly / wavy bouncy. Your hair type will also determine the best style.
Oblong - Long and slender, about the same width at forehead and just below cheekbones. May have a very narrow chin or a very high forehead.
Hairstyles for this face shape should add width and fullness to the sides of the face and around the eyes, cheekbones and ears. This shape benefits from a low side parting, with a sweep of hair brushed across the forehead and secured with a butterfly clip.

TEXTURE! Work it like a Celebrity!
“Ask for a graduated bob with a face-framing angle around the front to give the hair movement,” You don’t want it to look like a layered haircut, but the angle in the front helps your hair move away from your face." Surface Swirl" will also get that breezy just-stepped-out-of-the-convertible effect that’s ideal for bob haircuts. One last hint: To flatter square faces, try rounding out the bob by adding piecey bangs, like Jessica Alba does
For Dianna Agron’s sweet allover waves, request longish bangs that will easily blend into your hair. They’ll give you the freedom to make a part on the left, right or wherever..
Midlength Cut With Layers
If we didn’t love Mad Men so much, we’d sort of hate January Jones for always looking so effortlessly glam. Exhibit A: her tousled, midlength bob. If your hair is fine, ask your stylist to snip in a few layers like hers to help create the illusion of fullness. “But not too many or it will look like a shag,” For Jones’ controlled bedhead, skip the brush when you blow-dry..

Section Inspection
One challenge most clients face is properly recreating their style at home once they leave the salon. Help them out by doing a little section inspection to see how they section their hair when blow drying, says Sam Villa. For clients that need help, give a tutorial and they’ll be thrilled! “Sectioning provides more control of the brush, tension, heat, airflow and direction, and proper sectioning will change the way clients style their hair forever,” Sam explains. Here are his top sectioning tips:
1. Divide the head into four quadrants and section out each
quadrant; start at the nape of the neck and work your way up.
2. Use proper sectioning clips to isolate and control each section, and never take a section that’s wider than your brush.
3. Section depth should be about 1 to 1½-inches depending on density.
4. Hold the brush in your writing hand and the blow dryer in the other hand about a ½-inch apart.
5. Position the blow dryer parallel to the brush; NEVER put the nozzle directly on the brush, it will burn the blow dryer motor out, damage brush bristles and burn hair.
